We created this beautiful book in collaboration with Maine publisher Tilbury House. Infants will lift their heads to see the beautiful faces surrounding them and toddlers will love the photos of diverse babies long after they have outgrown tummy time. The simple, gentle verses are perfect for engaging babies and encouraging their verbal skills.
Age Group 4 months
What’s Happening at this Age
- Beginning to swipe at books
- ‘Helping’ turn pages by batting at the book
- Laughing and making more sounds including back and forth ‘conversations’
Your baby is much more aware of the world around them now. They can turn their head toward sounds and smile or frown in response to things they hear. They’re also working to have control of their arms and hands. They may reach toward a book as you read it and try to grab it themselves. Making sure books are always within reach can help them with this. Continue to read to them and start to gently guide their hand to pat the pictures as you talk about what’s on the pages. Making reading time interactive will be thrilling for them!

Why did we select this book?
We chose this book because it encourages parent engagement while babies are lying on their bellies. Tummy time allows babies to develop crucial muscles and the standing accordion pages of this book will inspire infants to lift and look at the array of beautiful diverse faces. When parents talk with their baby about the faces on the page, it is not only the baby's muscles that are engaged but the baby's curious, growing brain, too!
