Web Resources to Support Early Literacy Development

Does it really make a difference if I read to my baby as soon as she is born? What books do two year olds enjoy? Do all babies put books in their mouths?

You’ll find the answers to these questions (and many others) on our new website. We’ve completely redesigned the site from top to bottom to make it easy to find what you need to support the children in your life on their early literacy journeys.

Sections on Understanding Early Literacy and Promoting a Love of Reading provide answers to many of the common questions parents/caregivers have about reading aloud and the important role it plays in a child’s development and school readiness. We’ve put together some of our best tips to help you make books and literacy activities a part of families’ everyday lives.

Book Recommendations and Activity Kits

Book recommendations are only a click away in the Search Our Books tab. Wondering about a good title for an upcoming birthday party or baby shower?  Look no further – search all books given out by Raising Readers for age-specific book ideas or, try some of the other recommended book links included on the page. And, what parent doesn’t need a good book on potty training, loss, or a new sibling at some point? In that case, don’t miss our, Doctor Recommended Children’s Books on Special Topics lists (e.g. adoption, feelings, bedtime, etc.)

For those families who are looking to take their literacy journey to the next level, we’ve created a series of early literacy activity kits, which include games, crafts, songs, snacks, and more, to go along with many of the books we’ve distributed.  Find these kits and other helpful links in the Resources tab.
