Babies and toddlers will delight in seeing colorful photos of adorable youngsters—including themselves. Happy faces, sleepy faces, sad faces—even a silly face—are here to be enjoyed. With the mirror at the end of the book, you and your child will get to gaze upon the image of the most loved baby—yours!

Age Group 4 months

What’s Happening at this Age

  • Beginning to swipe at books
  • ‘Helping’ turn pages by batting at the book
  • Laughing and making more sounds including back and forth ‘conversations’

Your baby is much more aware of the world around them now. They can turn their head toward sounds and smile or frown in response to things they hear. They’re also working to have control of their arms and hands. They may reach toward a book as you read it and try to grab it themselves. Making sure books are always within reach can help them with this. Continue to read to them and start to gently guide their hand to pat the pictures as you talk about what’s on the pages. Making reading time interactive will be thrilling for them!

Why did we select this book?

At 4 months, Raising Readers likes to offer a book that shows your baby the faces of other babies and toddlers. Soon your child will move from loving your face, to being lovingly curious about all faces. Raising Readers loved the surprise on the last page—a mirror to show off the best baby of all.

Related Activities

Talk with your child about what you see on the pages and what you notice about the children. For example, one baby has fuzzy blonde hair. One baby has beautiful brown skin. Connect each baby to your own. For example: This baby had a bath. You will have a bath today with warm water and a washcloth. They may not understand everything you are saying, but they are trying to make connections, and that trying makes for a bright, growing baby.
