Literacy Explorer Kits Link raising readers Books with Family Literacy (& others)
Reading is one of the best ways parents can help their children develop a love of books and reading. However, access to books and the parent's own literacy level can be barriers to making that happen. Through raising readers and the Maine Family Literacy initiative, the Libra Foundation and the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy are working together to overcome those barriers.
Kits include reading tips, developmental information & extension activities
The Barbara Bush Foundation funded the development of Literacy Explorer Kits that contain reading tips and developmental information, playgroup ideas for child and parent together time and activities to help parents extend the learning at home. The Kits integrate the books that families receive from raising readers into family literacy programming, which deepens the impact and helps families get the most out of them.
The Kits are available to individual parents, family literacy programs and other organizations and can be downloaded below.
Literacy Explorer Kits have been developed for all books distributed in 2010 and 2011. Kits are listed alphabetically by title. Refer to the 2010 and 2011 book lists to determine when a title was distributed by the program.
